Tesco campaign promotes continuing double points deal

Tesco is running a press ad campaign to promote the extension of its double Clubcard points offer until the summer.

Last week Tesco celebrated the 15th birthday of its loyalty scheme claiming that £120m of rewards have been sent to more than 14 million customers.

Double points will now continue to be offered in stores and online until later in the summer.

The supermarket is also rewarding Clubcard holders “special birthday offers” including deals at Hilton hotels, free entry into theme parks and other Merlin attractions, half price magazine subscriptions and money off Virgin Holidays.

Tesco also plans to reward five Clubcard holders with 1 million Clubcard points worth £10,000 in Tesco shopping or up to £40,000 with Clubcard partners.

The activity is backed by the launch of an iPhone app that means customers can earn loyalty points by scanning the phone’s screen, in a bid to appeal to men who are less likely to sign up to Clubcard and carry the card.

Last week, Nectar card overtook Clubcard in terms of card holders with 16.8 million to Clubcard’s 15 million.
