Tesco.com to hunt for new chief marketer

Tesco.com is seeking a new chief marketer to replace Tom Britten, who is understood to be moving to another role at the retail chain’s Internet division.

Britten is quitting the role of product marketing manager for Tesco.com, the chain’s Internet home shopping venture.

Tesco.com claims to be the world’s leading online grocer, selling books, entertainment and baby products, home furnishings and electrical goods, as well as groceries. The service receives about 7,000 orders a day, according to US research company Gomez.

Britten’s new role is not yet confirmed, but it is believed it will involve Tesco.com’s non-food products, such as electrical goods and gifts. Before joining Tesco.com, Britten was Tesco personal finance director.

Tesco has been online since 1996, when it launched a phone, fax and limited Internet service. The company is believed to be considering rolling out interactive television and WAP services.
