Tesco creates UK board ahead of new CEO

Tesco has created a dedicated UK management board with two new commercial appointees ahead of Richard Brasher taking over as UK CEO in March.

As part of the management overhaul, Tesco has made eight appointments including new commercial directors for its food and non food arms.

Laura Wade-Gery, currently head of Tesco’s online business will become commercial director for clothing, electronics and merchandise. It is not yet known who will take over her role at Tesco.com.

Per Bank, who is currently head of the supermarket’s operations in Hungary will take on the commercial director for food role.

Bob Robbins, chief executive of Tesco’s central and Eastern Europe business will take on the the chief operating officer role, and Tony Keohane, chief executive of Tesco Ireland, will join the UK board.

Carolyn Bradley remains marketing director at the supermarket. She and the new appointees will report to Brasher.

The creation of the UK board comes ahead of Brasher’s move from UK commercial and trading director to UK chief executive when Tesco’s group CEO Sir Terry Leahy steps down in March.

Philip Clarke, currently head of international operations, will take over from Sir Terry as group CEO.

Tesco said it would to create a “new group commercial role”, when Sir Terry announced he was stepping down from the chain, which has yet to be revealed.

In November, Tesco reversed its recent decline and increased its market share for the first time since May, according to the latest Kantar Worldpanel figures.

The supermarket is due to report its Christmas trading update on Thursday (13 January.

Yesterday, Morrisons revealed a new line up for its senior management team including new strategy and own brand director roles, as part of new CEO Dalton Philips’ strategy to strengthen the Morrisons brand.
