Tesco plots online foray into secondhand car sales

Tesco is moving into the automotive market with the launch of a secondhand car sales website.

The supermarket claims the site has been designed specifically to respond to the “gripes” consumers have with existing secondhand car dealers.

Tesco says its used car website provides a trustworthy option that cuts out the middleman by selling directly to customers.

It also says customers won’t face the hard sell or pressure to buy that is associated with secondhand car dealers, although it gives the supermarket an opportunity to offer Tesco Financial products such as loans, insurance and breakdown cover.

This is the latest example of Tesco expanding outside the supermarket sector. It already operates in banking and mobile.

Tesco Cars will also offer after-sales support provided by more than 1,000 independent garages.
