Tesco to launch clothing line for the young

Tesco is set to unveil a new clothing line aimed at a younger audience in an attempt to take on bigger clothing rivals Primark and Marks & Spencer. Called Florence & Fred Trend, the new range launches in mid-May.

The news comes as Tesco is expected to ring up solid profit increases as it announces its annual results.

It will target 16-24 year olds and follows the announcement of Tesco F&F Couture range, which aims to sell high-end items.

Tesco is currently the fourth-biggest clothing retailer behind Asda, Primark and M&S.

In 2008, Tesco halted the sale of clothing online less than six months after it was the first UK supermarket to launch the service. In October last year the supermarket giant put its entire clothing offer online in an effort to close the gap with Asda, which was already selling its George collection over the internet.
