TfL group marketing director misses out on top marketing role

Transport for London (TfL) has overlooked group marketing director Nigel Marson (left) to take its top marketing role, which will be filled by Financial Services Authority (FSA) communications chief Vernon Everitt.

The role was created in March this year when TfL decided to combine its group marketing, media and communications departments under one umbrella as part of a major corporate restructure (MW March 1).

Everitt, who starts in October, takes the title managing director of marketing and communications and will report to commissioner Peter Hendy. Marson steps back to group marketing director.

Everitt takes responsibility for advertising and marketing, alongside overseeing the press office, internal communications, government and stakeholder relations and the customer service department. He oversees a team of 800 people.

Marson took charge of the combined role six months after being promoted to group marketing director from head of marketing. He replaced Chris Townsend, who left to join the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) as commercial director (MW June 8, 2006).

Everitt is currently FSA director of retail themes and sector leader for consumers and has been at the authority for nine years. Previously, Everitt was European Monetary Union project manager for banking supervision at the Bank of England.
