TfL hunts for agencies to promote green commuting options

tfl.gifTransport for London (TfL) is hunting for specialist marketing agencies to support its Travel Demand Management (TDM) unit to encourage travellers to make environmentally-friendly choices. The appointed agency’s remit will cover event, lifestyle and diversity marketing in addition to event organisation and the recruitment of promotional staff.

The TDM unit develops advertising and events to raise awareness of sustainable travel options and works with schools, workplaces and residential areas to demonstrate the problems created by car travel. It also researches ways of reducing the environmental impact of travel and traffic.

It has an overall budget of £25m, expected to increase to £30m in 2007/8.

TfL’s roster agencies include M&C Saatchi, WCRS, Meteorite and Chemistry communications Group. Mediaedge:cia handles the £10m media and planning account. It is understood the TDM unit is looking at agencies outside the roster.

The search follows the announcement of the appointment of FSA public relations officer Vernon Everitt as the managing director of group marketing and communications at TfL.
