Marson (pictured) joined TfL seven years ago and was overlooked two years ago for the top marketing role. Instead former Financial Services Authority (FSA) communications chief Vernon Everitt took the role of managing director of marketing and communications.

The role was created when TfL rolled its group marketing, media and communications departments into one body. Marson took charge of the combined role six months after being promoted to group marketing director from head of marketing until Everitt’s appointment.

Marson replaced group marketing director Chris Townsend, who joined the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) as commercial director.

Marson has overseen the marketing of initiatives such as the introduction of the congestions charge and the launch of the Oyster Card.
