The Co-operative trials electricals stores
The Co-operative is looking to compete with its supermarket rivals by stocking a range of electrical goods in store.
The Co-op’s food business is teaming up with online stablemate The Co-operative Electrical to open trial electrical shops within three of its larger stores.
The move is part of the Co-op’s strategy to “exploit the electrical sector’s potential in a food environment”.
The Co-op will offer branded white goods such as washing machines, audio, video and personal care items.
The pilots in Brighton, Bristol and Bridgend combine in-store displays of products and kiosks where customers can access an electronic catalogue of more than 2,000 products in The Co-operative Electrical’s range.
Sean Toal, Co-operative Food commercial director, says the electricals offering will “complement and enhance the existing food shopping experience” in Co-op stores.
