The Sun pledges to make Gordon Brown honour his EU referendum promise

Gordon%20Brown%20The%20Sun%20Is a European state about to bring about all George Orwell’s most gloomy predictions? Not if a campaign by The Sun has anything to do with it.

The newspaper’s campaign, run by the aptly named Euro RSCG, coincides with the Labour Party Conference in Bourne-mouth and reminds the British public that the not-so “Golden” Brown promised them a referendum on the European Constitution, and encourages them to have their say on the issue.

Apparently the new Constitution threatens to transform virtually every aspect of British life, stripping Britain of its control over such vital issues as immigration and defence. What’s next, a European Big Brother (obviously in the Orwellian 1984 sense)?

Of course, we have to bear in mind that this is The Sun, and it may well be exaggerating. Mr Brown assures us that “At all times we will stand up for the British national interest”. But whether you agree with a United States of Europe or not, you can have your voice heard.
