The Top 10 YouTube ads in June

In June YouTube’s top five ads were still dominated by football campaigns – from Nike and Adidas to Beats and EA. The one exception? Procter & Gamble’s “Like a girl” campaign for its Always brand, which is hoping to inspire girls with a message of strength.

1.  Nike Football: Winner Stays. ft. Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Rooney, Ibrahimović, Iniesta & more

Creative Agency: W+K Portland
Media Agency: Mindshare

Nike flexed its celebrity muscles for this viral win, which turns a kids’ kickabout down the park into a star-studded match featuring everyone from Rooney and Iniesta to Ronaldo and Neymar. The video was the second part of Nike’s “Risk Everything” football campaign to coincide with this year’s World Cup. Luckily for Nike the ad performed better than the teams and players its sponsored after Brazil capitulated to Germany and ambassadors Wayne Rooney, Andres Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo all went home in the group stages.

2.  Always #LikeAGirl

Creative Agency: Leo Burnett
Media Agency: MediaCom

If you were asked to run or throw like a girl, what would you do? That’s the question that Procter & Gamble’s Always brand asked a group of unsuspecting men as a means of addressing the stereotype that women aren’t as strong as men. Based on research conducted by Research Now, the ad hopes to shift perceptions of the phrase “Like a girl” from an insult to a term of empowerment.

3. Adidas Football – All in or nothing: House Match ft. Beckham, Zidane, Bale and Lucas Moura

Creative Agency: TBWA Chiat Day New York
Media Agency: Carat

Part of Adidas’ “All in or nothing” campaign, viewers are treated to four footballers that weren’t at the World Cup having a kickabout indoors. Retired footballers David Bechkam and Zinedine Zidane take on the next generation in Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura in a match that ends in disaster for Beckham’s trophy cabinet. Adidas is the market leader in terms of football sales and this umbrella campaign, its biggest ever, has helped to bolster its position, leading to an uplift in public perceptions following its ties to both World Cup finalists and a host of skillful players.

4. Beats by Dre The Game Before The Game

Creative Agency: R/GA
Media Agency: MediaCom

When David Hasselhoff spoofs your ad you know you are onto a winner and Beats by Dre certainly has one on its hands with this epic campaign focused on the game before the game. Before the players even get on the football pitch, there is the mental game they must play in the dressing room and Beats had a host of stars, led by Neymar, line up to show how important their headphones are to their pre-match routine. Players were banned from wearing the headphones in and around World Cup venues. However, that does not seem to have stopped World Cup stars from turning up to games sporting them.

5. FIFA 15 – Official E3 Gameplay Trailer

Media Agency: MediaCom

With gamers unable to get their hands on new footballing title Fifa 15 until September, developer Electronic Arts is keen to ramp up the excitement for the release. The focus this year is on helping people “feel the game”. Sure there are still the crunching tackles, the amazing saves and the goals from 40 yards out. But this time there is more focus on the crowds, the cheering and, as producer Sebastian Enrique put it, “the atmosphere, the passion”. Fifa 15 is no longer just about the players, it’s also about the people that go to watch.

6. Stella Artois UK and the Perfectionists – Rufus: The Real Hawk-Eye

7. Audi Deutschland – Race car on the road: “Welcome back”

8. blinkbox – Game of Thrones Dragon TV ad

9. #ProudToPlay: Celebrating equality for all athletes

10. blinkbox – The Pugs of Westeros
