The Union unveils Optical Express ads for laser eye surgery

The Union, the Edinburgh-based advertising agency, has created a national television advertising campaign for Optical Express’ laser eye surgery service.

It is the first work from The Union since it won the Optical Express account, which is worth around £3.5m, in June following a competitive pitch against a number of undisclosed agencies.

Optical Express is a privately-owned Scottish-based combined eyecare, laser surgery and dental services provider, which has been expanding aggressively over the past few years. In 2004, it bought both Boots’ laser eye correction service and its dentistry business.

It has previously worked with The Leith Agency in 2003 but took the business in house after only nine months. It most recently worked with Glasgow agency Coltas.

The Union has also retained the Edinburgh-based Miller Homes account after a pitch involving a number of undisclosed agencies. The business is believed to be worth several million pounds.

Miller Homes is the country’s largest privately-owned housebuilding, property development and construction business. Since it was founded in 1934, it has built more than 60,000 homes.

It is involved in residential, office and retail developments across the UK and in Europe. Its latest full-year figures show a 29% increase in pre-tax profits to £35.7m, on sales of £549.8m (up from £354.8m).
