Thelondonpaper in recycling trial

Thelondonpaper is launching a recycling initiative across the West End with retail giant Boots. The News International-owned freesheet plans to place recycling bins in central London branches of the chemist chain.

The week-long trial, which will begin next week, will be rolled-out permanently if it proves successful. The scheme is understood to be the first recycling activity the paper has been involved with.

Thelondonpaper and its rival Associated Newspapers-owned London Lite have been accused of creating excess litter since launching last year. Earlier this month both faced distribution cutbacks across Westminster for failing to meet financial demands for helping clean up their waste. Both titles are now looking into ways of recycling discarded copies.

Thelondonpaper distributes 496,504 copies according to the latest ABCs figures published this month. It now has a 100,000 lead over London Lite, which slumped by 2.95% to 388,442 in June.
