This Much I Learned: Eve’s Cheryl Calverley on her first year as CEO

In the latest episode of Marketing Week’s podcast series, Eve Sleep’s Cheryl Calverley discusses what skills marketers need to become CEO and why building a culture of forgiveness is essential.

After a string of high-profile marketing roles at The AA, Birds Eye and Unilever, Cheryl Calverley joined sleep wellness brand Eve in 2018 as CMO. By May 2020 she had assumed the position of CEO, just as the Covid-19 crisis started to dominate our lives.

However, rather than let the pandemic slow the brand down, under Calverley’s watch Eve has entered the sleep gifts market through a partnership with Boots, seen brand awareness grow 17% and launched a campaign asking the UK to activate ‘sleep mode’.

A year into her role, and with Eve’s rebuild strategy six months ahead of schedule, Calverley is drawing on the skills she developed as a marketing leader to become an even more effective CEO.

In this podcast, she discusses why listening is a core – and often underrated – CEO skill, how she is building a culture of forgiveness and why exploring needs-based commerce is at the top of her to-do list.
