Thorpe to be marketing boss at Energis ISP

Energis Squared, the Internet Service Provider (ISP), has made Gregory Thorpe its first marketing director.

Thorpe will be responsible for the development of a European marketing strategy for the company, set up two years ago when Energis bought Planet Online.

He will head a 22-strong marketing team and will report to John Beaumont, managing director of Energis Squared. Thorpe joined Energis as head of marketing communications in 1998, and was promoted to director of marketing communications, where he oversaw of the rebranding of Planet Online to Energis Squared.

In his new role Thorpe will oversee a multi-million pound budget and continue to build on the company’s recent ‘Close to You’ campaign.

Thorpe says: “Many companies fail to recognise that technology enables, but service differentiates.

“The better our people are at understanding the customers and the closer they are to them, the better solutions we will create.”

Energis Squared is Europe’s largest ‘Web farm’, hosting over 16,000 websites. Customers include Freeserve, Ananova, EMAP and Jungle.com.
