Three go as Unilever rejigs cosmetics arm

Unilever Cosmetics International (UCI) has consolidated its global marketing into a single position, resulting in the departure of three marketing chiefs.

Laura Klauberg has been appointed to the single post – as senior vice-president of marketing – and will report to UCI president and chief executive Kevin Boyce. Klauberg was previously vice-president of brand development in skincare for Unilever’s North American home and personal care business.

Her new role will consolidate global marketing for UCI’s three divisions: Calvin Klein Cosmetics, Unilever Prestige and European Designer Parfums. The former global marketing chiefs of the three divisions – Hilary Dart, Laura Lee Miller and Gabriele Pungerscheg – have left the company. It is not known if they have a job to go to.

A UCI spokeswoman says the marketing teams – including that in the UK – have not been affected by the reshuffle.

She says: “It was a difficult choice but Laura has over 20 years’ marketing experience at Unilever. We are trying to align the company and focus our marketing.”

Her first task will be to meet the licence holders of a number of UCI’s top brands including Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld. She will also oversee developments planned for 2004 in the Calvin Klein, Cerruti and Vera Wang fragrance ranges. Last year, Unilever was rumoured to be preparing to sell its UCI business.
