Top marketer to sit on Telegraph board

Telegraph Media Group is understood to be seeking a board-level marketer with a strong retail background to replace its senior marketing team, which was scrapped last week.

The publisher is believed to have a brief out for a senior commercial figure, who will oversee the marketing function. It is looking at candidates with a retail background, who have experience in below-the-line marketing disciplines such as loyalty schemes. It is not clear what title the role will have.

The move comes as TMG announced a restructure of its marketing and digital divisions. It has axed the roles of general manager of digital, which was held by Mike Moore, together with Barry Flanigan’s role as marketing director (MW last week).

It is understood that commercial director Dave King and newspaper sales director Steve McLaughlin are currently overseeing responsibility for marketing. Further changes are expected.

TMG says the restructure has been made to streamline the company’s operations. It aims to align its digital and marketing functions with the commercially focused areas of business such as advertising, ecommerce, newspaper sales and promotions.

Last week, TMG also announced the addition of Google vice-president, marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Lorraine Twohill, as a non-executive member of the TMG board.

The publisher has brought her in to capitalise on her marketing background. In her current role, she has been res- ponsible for building a marketing team operating across 20 countries. She oversees the Google brand and its marketing throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The publisher was not able to confirm the new marketing role as Marketing Week went to press.
