Triathlon popularity sparks new Future title

Special-interest consumer magazine publisher Future is launching Triathlon Plus in April, it second title launch this year.

The title will go on sale at £3.99 and will have an initial print run of 50,000 copies. The launch follows a trial issue last month. It will be edited by the former editor of Mountain Biking UK and Cycling Plus Mat Brett.

The title will join Future’s active portfolio, which includes Cycling Plus and Procycling. Participation in triathlon events has doubled in the UK following its debut as part of the Olympics at the Sydney games in 2000. The London Triathlon is the biggest in the world with 13,000 participants, and last year there were 650 registered races in the UK.

Future reported a year-on-year rise in revenue of 1% in the final quarter of 2008, although it revealed advertising revenue fell by 9% for the three months to December 31, largely due to the performance of its US titles where advertising activity has slowed faster than the UK.
