TUI rebrands Lunn Poly as Thomson

Holiday company TUI is axing the 116-year-old Lunn Poly brand, and rebranding its shops as Thomson.

The company says the rebrand of all the 785 Lunn Poly shops will be completed by Boxing Day.

TUI UK sales and marketing director Miles Morgan says there will be no “large scale” closures of the high street stores, but says the company will aim to increase the number of holidays it sells via the internet and television. High street sales continue to account for 70 per cent of holidays sold by TUI in the UK.

TUI says it wants to build Thomson into a “power brand” featuring the red “smile” logo across all its channels. The Lunn Poly TV shopping channel will also be rebranded as Thomson TV.

TUI, a German-based company, rebranded its charter airline Britannia as Thomsonfly last year (MW November 6, 2003).
