The value of the deal was not disclosed but an FA statement says the agreement “represents a significant investment”.

News of the extension comes as the FA continues its search for a new lead partner to replace Nationwide.

A spokesman for the Association says it is “still in talks” with potential backers.

Nationwide ended its long association with the FA in July.

Potential replacements are said to include Spanish bank Santander, Orange and Blackberry.

The sportswear brand is an official supporter of the England team and has manufactured England’s kits since 1952. It is also a supporter of England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

The FA has one other official supporter in Mars and several “suppliers” including Nivea, Tesco and Carlsberg.
