Virgin Media signs Christine Ohuruogu
Virgin Media has added to its staple of gold medal winning brand ambassadors by signing a sponsorship deal with two time world champion 400m runner Christine Ohuruogu.
Ohuruogu, who last week at the World Athletics Championships became the first British woman ever to claim a second world individual world title, joins sprinter Usain Bolt, long distance runner Mo Farah and marathon runner Richard Whitehead as brand ambassadors for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, of which Virgin Media is a sponsor.
She is now set to appear in forthcoming Virgin Media marketing campaigns, most likely those promoting the speed of its broadband service.
Virgin Media is an official partner and the presenting partner of athletics at Glasgow 2014, which takes place from 23 July to 4 August 2014.
The company kicked off its sponsorship activation in June this year with an experiential and Twitter campaign to share Glasgow residents’ top tips about the city. Virgin Media staff visited the city with the Glasgow 2014 official mascot, balloons and Richard Branson-esque beards whilst they voxpopped people in the city centre.
Elsewhere, Virgin Media is currently running an advertising campaign starring Stoke City striker Peter Crouch to promote its partnership with BT Sport. Virgin Media is offering the majority of its pay-TV customers BT Sport channels for free.
