Alex Aiken

Executive director, Government communications

The Government

Alex Aiken is responsible for creating the Government Communications Service. When spending public money, effectiveness is the watchword, so one of his main challenges is coordinating the Government’s communications and ensuring that its 140 main campaigns reach their intended audiences and are measured properly. Having started his career as parliamentary researcher, his long-standing commitment to communications and policy has led him to a fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and the Public Relations Consultants Association. He has also trained and advised politicians and officials around the world in the practice of government and communications.

Best advice: "Focus relentlessly on your chosen objective and do not get diverted by pressures of the moment."
