Few marketers get the opportunity to join a business at the beginning of its journey and watch it grow at the same pace as their career. Fewer still get to experience this in just five years. Alice Mrongovius joined online food ordering platform Delivery Hero in 2011 as an SEO team leader when the company was launched. The business now operates in 33 markets including under the Hungryhouse brand in the UK. Mrongovius quickly moved up the ranks to become marketing director at Hungryhouse in 2014 before being promoted to CEO in January. The startup environment is not alien to Mrongovius and it is the source of one of her most significant realisations: “In my first tech startup job, I had that moment where all the divergent professional experiences and studies from my 20s suddenly clicked and made sense.” Her rise to CEO reflects the changing nature of marketing, she says, which is “about applying those skills without considering it to be ‘just a marketing topic’”.
Biggest challenge: “Finding the balance between my passion for getting the details right and the big picture.”
