Craig Inglis was the man who realised the potential for one of the UK’s best-loved brands to make a stronger emotional connection with customers. Under his stewardship, marketing has not only become pivotal to John Lewis, but he is often cited as leading the marketing agenda in retailing. He has been rewarded for that leadership, having recently been promoted to customer director and given a place on the board.

Best advice: "You can achieve absolutely nothing without taking people with you. To do that you need to step into their map of the world, travel at their pace and be prepared to show more of yourself, even if that means feeling vulnerable on a regular basis."
