Gill Whitehead has been at the forefront of several major evolutions throughout her career, including the launch of the first digital television service for Sweden’s Com Hem and joining BBC Worldwide’s executive committee at aged just 28. She joined Google in March 2016 after eight years as director of audience technologies and insight at Channel 4 where she got the brand’s video platform 4oD, now named All4, to 10 million registered users in less than two years. “We ruthlessly tested the value exchange to get the right balance of what is in it for our viewers versus what is in it for us. It has taught me that if you get your consumer proposition right, you can move mountains,” she says.
Biggest challenge: "Attracting data scientists. Apparently, banks pay more than television does. I now sponsor PhD and Masters courses that allow brilliant graduates to complete their studies while getting valuable work experience with us."
