Jamie Queen is a geek evangelist. While this is great news for Thomas Cook, which installed him as its digital and marketing supremo in 2014, he is anxious that he should be spreading the word to his fellow marketers and beyond. “My biggest challenge is finding ways to make new technology and trends accessible to colleagues outside marketing and ecommerce. Not everyone shares my ‘inner geek’ [but] it is critical [that] the business understands trends and new technology so that we can build capability and create opportunities,” he says. To this end, he is part of an initiative to bring a digital marketing apprenticeship scheme to school leavers to grow talent at a grassroots level.
Best advice: “We spend more time at work than at home. When choosing where to work, find a culture that you can thrive in and surround yourself with great people.”
