Manaaz Akhtar is a fast mover in fast food, having previously worked at Pizza Hut and Burger King before taking charge of marketing at Subway. Her remit initially covered only the UK & Ireland, where she oversaw various deals, projects and movie tie-ups, but in September 2013 she was promoted to an international role. She has since overseen more brand tie-ins, with high profile organisations including Liverpool FC, and the development of a loyalty card. With 43,766 stores in 110 countries and constantly changing food trends, Akhtar notes her biggest challenge is “matching the fast-paced reality of the ever-shifting consumer purchasing habits”. She is meeting the fast-food industry’s healthy eating issues head-on with the company’s continued support of Heart Research UK.
