Pete Markey does not shy away from a challenge. About to join Aviva from the Post Office, before that he oversaw a rebrand at insurer RSA, became a Marketing Academy Fellow and shared his wisdom at several industry events. His most recent challenge was trying to transform the 300-year-old Post Office’s 11,500 branches in the UK, visited by over 17 million customers a week, via an extensive programme “to modernise the rest of the business, notably in digital”, he says.
Best advice: "Own the problem and the solution. Early in my career I used to treat my leader’s door like a doctor’s surgery where I’d give him a problem and hope he’d solve it. After a while he said ‘next time, don't just come to me with a problem, come with a solution too’."
