Sholto Douglas-Home is responsible for overseeing a full range of marketing and communications activity across the company’s 33 countries of operation. A natural diplomat, he was engaged in 2009 by the Minister of Sport to chair a Department for Culture, Media and Sport working party to resolve a commercial dispute between the UK’s 60 race courses and 600 on-course bookmakers. This level-headedness could be credited to what he cites as the best advice he has received: “Never assume something is as good or as bad as it first seems.” As one of the Marketing Academy’s 2014 fellows, this board-level marketer and former ad man is now ensuring he has the skills needed to take on a future CEO role.
