VisitScotlands interactive TV venture

VisitScotland, Scotland’s tourist organisation, is launching an interactive television service in a bid to boost visitor numbers.

The organisation says the service will have a potential audience of 7 million adults. The adverts will run on at least 80 digital channels across the UK including Sky Movies, Sky Sports, UKTV Gold and ITV2.

VisitScotland chief executive Philip Riddle says that it needs to “seize every opportunity” to entice people to visit. He says it is important to try technology such as interactive television campaigns.

The adverts feature footage of events around Scotland including the Edinburgh Festival and international rugby matches.

Viewers who press the red button on their remote controls during VisitScotland’s adverts will be directed to more information about events, festivals and sporting fixtures in Scotland.

Additionally, the interactive adverts will give viewers the chance to request an e-brochure through their TV, which offers information such as accommodation offers.
