VMTV restructures as marketing chief quits

Virgin Media Television, the content arm of the cable company, is restructure its marketing division. The move comes as marketing director Jon King leaves the company.

It is not thought that King’s departure is related to the restructure, with a source suggesting that he wanted to move on after three years at the broadcaster. It is not known if he has a job to go to.

King was responsible for the rebranding of a number of VMTV’s channels including Living, as well as the launch of channel brands including Virgin One. He joined Flextech as marketing director prior to its merger with NTL and the rebrand as Virgin Media. Flextech was subsequently relaunched as VMTV.

Much of King’s remit is being handled by marketing controller Jo Davey on an interim basis, although managing director Jonny Webb is overseeing the brand and marketing director portfolio until the vacancy is filled.

Separately, it is restructuring its marketing department in order to strengthen its focus on brands, particularly those that run across multiple platforms. Currently, marketing teams are divided on a platform-by-platform basis.

A source says that VMTV wants to integrate its marketing across television, mobile and the internet to ensure a more consistent approach to channel and programme marketing. The source says a number of roles will be changed in the restructure, although there is unlikely to be any job losses.
