The appointment follows a protracted pitch for the advertising account, which has been split from the network distribution business. W&K pitched against JWT and Mother in the final round after DDB, incumbent Grey and Bartle Bogle Hegarty were knocked out at an earlier stage. DDB, JWT, Grey/Bates Asia and Lowe remain involved in the pitch for the network account.

The agency’s first work is expected to break early next year. Jo Harlow, senior vice-president of marketing for the mobile phone division, says: “We expect this relationship to help take us to our goal of becoming the most loved and admired iconic brand.”

Previously Grey handled a majority of the UK account although Lowe also works with the handset manufacturer on some campaigns.
