World Cup host lacks team spirit

Football, they say, is one of the only sports with true universal appeal; it’s certainly the most popular, despite North America’s indifference.

But the Diary can reveal “the beautiful game” has yet to conquer Seoul – the capital of the one of the host nations in the next World Cup – which, surprisingly, does not have its own club.

Never one to miss an opportunity, Interpublic sports marketing company Octagon Worldwide is apparently working with the South Korean authorities to rectify the situation – by setting up a team in the city.

The Diary would like to nominate England coach Kevin Keegan as the team’s first manager. After all, with critics doubting whether his beleaguered team will qualify, how else is he going to get to see the World Cup finals?
