Yahoo sponsoring ‘Dump the Junk Day’

Yahoo is sponsoring dustmen, rubbish trucks, wheelie bins and bin-bags for this week’s ‘Dump the Junk Day’. If the sponsorship is successful, Yahoo says it may increase its length and is already negotiating with refuse contractor Onyx and the London Boroughs of Westminster and Southwark about this possibility. Yahoo claims the use of rubbish materials is a media first. Yahoo Europe head of mail marketing John Webb says: ‘There are 21 million households in the country producing 500 million tonnes of waste, so the untapped medium of targeting consumers through their rubbish could yet prove to be an effective marketing tool.’ Dump the Junk Day is a global initiative to counter spam and educate consumers about junk mail.
