Yell.com chief to head Securicor Web service

Yellow Pages marketing chief Nigel Marson has been appointed marketing director of Securicor’s new e-commerce venture, SafeDoor.

Marson has spent two and a half years at Yellow Pages as marketing communications controller overseeing Yellow Pages, Internet portal Yell.com, Talking Pages and Business Pages.

Marson has worked for 19 years in the marketing and advertising business. He joined Saatchi & Saatchi as an account director in 1981 and in 1988 became European category manager at Colgate-Palmolive. Marson then became marketing director of Cadbury Schweppes.

Securicor eSolutions is putting &£7m behind SafeDoor, which is due to launch this spring. SafeDoor is an online privacy and credit card fraud protection service which lets consumers shop on the Internet without having to give their credit card details every time they transact.

Marson has worked on a number of launches including Sony’s CD music format, Vodafone’s mobile telephone network, Colgate Plax, and the soft drink Oasis. At Yellow Pages, he helped launch the e-business model and marketing strategy for Yell.com.

Marson also presided over the relaunch of the Yellow Pages brand in 1999, the first overhaul of the brand in its 33-year history. The company also launched an &£11m advertising campaign called “Fuzzy Logic” through Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO last summer.

Marson says: “The SafeDoor proposition is simple and topical and it fulfils a real and significant consumer need. It is a logical extension of Securicor’s expertise – security and distribution.”
