YouView invites approaches from content providers

YouView, the joint venture set up to bring video-demand to television sets, has called on content providers to submit their interest in joining the platform.

The first phase of the programme will involve identifying audio and video content providers to work with the YouView technical team to develop and test the processes for making content available on the platform.

It will later be extended to other types of content including web applications and IP channels.

YouView was previously known as Project Canvas and its stakeholders are broadcasters the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, ISPs BT and TalkTalk and SeeSaw-owner Arqiva. It is scheduled to launch in the first half of next year.

It will issue updates on the availability of tools and guidelines regarding how to join the platform to any content providers who express interest.

It’s also calling for technology and service providers that can help support content provision on the platform to submit their interest.

Richard Halton, CEO of YouView, said, “Our ambition is to open up the TV screen to content providers that until now have been unable to build an audience. YouView is creating an open environment for content providers to play in and this will take some technical innovation. To develop the most effective processes for content providers, we need first to work closely with a few that can prove our model and ensure it’s scalable. Our plan is to extend the programme as we start to build common expertise and get more content on board.”

Last week YouView revealed its marketing agency roster, which includes Adam & Eve, OMD and Momentum.
