Magic regains London top spot from Capital

Rajar: Magic 105.4 has regained the title of London’s most listened to commercial radio station it lost to Capital in the last quarter, according to the latest Rajar data.

The Bauer station registered 2.28 million listeners in the three months to 30 June, up 14.4% on the previous quarter and 11.7% on the same period last year.

Capital 95.8 slipped to 2.07 million, down 4.7% on the first quarter but up 8.1% on the same period last year.

Fellow Global station Heart continued its recent slide, dropping 5.6% on the previous quarter and 8.9% on last year to 1.99 million.

Kiss 100 retained fourth spot, closing the gap on third placed Heart, up 2.1% quarter on quarter and 0.6% year on year to 1.86 million.

Global’s LBC slipped back after several quarters of growth, dipping 7.9% quarter on quarter and 10.3% year on year to 861,000.

At breakfast, Capital duo Johnny Vaughan and Lisa Snowdon remain the capital’s top draw with 1.14 million listeners each week, 84,000 less than the previous quarter but up 23,000 on the same period last year.

Magic’s Neil Fox remains in second spot with 845,000 listeners, up on the previous quarter but down on last year, while Heart’s Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott stays third with 792,000.

Rajar: A record number of people are listening to radio each week in the UK, with commercial radio taking its biggest share of the market in seven years, according to the latest Rajar data.
