Which brands will survive the rapid grocery delivery downturn?
Rapid grocery delivery is a ‘hugely capital intensive’ business, meaning many of the pure-play brands which took off during the pandemic are now struggling with costs. Meanwhile, the more established players are doubling down.
The pandemic brought an unprecedented demand for online grocery shopping, and with it, new brands dedicating to providing rapid grocery delivery services in as little as 15 minutes. GoPuff, Gorillas, Zapp and Getir all offer customers a digitised version of their ‘top-up shop’.
Established food delivery brands, notably Deliveroo and Just Eat, also ventured into the space, alongside the supermarkets themselves.
