Shyp

US-based Shyp takes the hassle out of mailing products by picking up items from consumers’ homes, professionally packing them and selecting the most cost-effective carrier to ship them to their destination.

The Shyp app lets users take a picture of the item to be collected and shipped. The entire process costs $5 (£3.88), plus postage.

Founder and CEO Kevin Gibbon launched the service in 2013 after noticing he was spending more time packing and shipping items as an eBay seller than he was trading. Since then, the company has received more than $62m (£48m) from investors, including Sherpa Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Caufield & Byers, XG Ventures and Winklevoss Capital.

Since starting out in San Francisco, Gibbon has used the funding to expand into other American cities, including New York, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles. Today, he works with eBay to enable sellers to link their account to ship items using the Shyp service.
