MealPal

MealPal is a subscription service that allows members to order their lunch online from nearby restaurants for under £5, before picking it up without queuing. The company competes with other food startups such as Deliveroo, EatFirst and UberEats and claims users can save over £620 a year on lunches with one of its subscriptions.

Founded in Miami in January 2016 by Mary Biggins, who also co-founded subscription-based fitness service ClassPass, and Katie Ghelli, formerly of ZocDoc, MealPal has since expanded to Boston, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco.

In February 2017, it launched in London – the first city it has reached outside the US – after raising $15m (£12m) in venture capital funding. The series A funding round was led by Comcast Ventures, while Bessemer Venture Partners, Haystack Partner, and NextView Ventures also contributed.

The company says it has facilitated over two million lunch meals since it launched.
