Daily Record appoints marketing chief

Trinity Mirror has appointed Lorraine Fraser as the marketing and sales director of its Scottish national title the Daily Record. Fraser’s appointment is part of a sweeping restructure at the paper, which has prompted the merger of its sales and marketing department.

She replaces Kirstin Morrison, who has taken voluntary redundancy as director of marketing.

The post of advertising sales head, previously held by Anne Laing, has been dissolved as part of the restructure; the position of circulation sales manager, held by Malcolm MacDonald, has also been cut.

Fraser was previously circulation director at the Daily Record before which she worked at The Scottish Sun. The Daily Record is fighting a newspaper war north of the border against Rupert Murdoch’s Scottish Sun, which had cut its cover price to just 10p to wrest market share from Trinity Mirror’s title.

The latest Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) figures show the Daily Record has a circulation of 401,354 in March, down from 412,844 in February. It suffered a year-on-year fall of 7.97%.
