Standard Life hires head of marketing

Standard Life has appointed former Sony Ericsson marketer Jo Coomber (pictured) to the new role of head of marketing operations for its UK financial services business.

The appointment is part of an ongoing restructure of the asset management company’s marketing team.

She will report to marketing operations director Simon Esberger and will oversee campaigns, sales support and marketing communications in the UK. 

Coomber joins from brand design consultancy Elmwood where she was managing director of its Edinburgh office. At Sony Ericsson, she oversaw global marketing communications and was responsible for the development of some of its global integrated marketing and brand-building campaigns.

Her appointment follows those of former npower marketer Esberger in October and Andrew Gillespie, who joined Standard Life in December as managing director for marketing across the UK financial services business.

Both were brought in amid a restructure of Standard Life’s UK marketing team led by chief marketing officer Simon Gulliford, who joined last February.

The restructure involves the separation of marketing and product development and is to lead to the creation and abolition of a number of roles. Standard Life is also to create a number of global “centres of excellence” in areas including brand, customer insight and digital.

The company appointed Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest to handle its advertising business last October.
