Loyalty marketing: Evolving as companies try to understand their clients

The article, “Body Shop and Jet plan link-up” (MW July 5) is wrong. We have never had nor do we have any plans to link with Jet and its retailing activities.

Thank you for pointing out that “a move into petrol forecourts could undermine The Body Shop’s environmental credentials”. We are well aware of the role of oil companies in regard to the environment.

It is well known that The Body Shop campaigns in support of the Ogoni people of Nigeria, whose lands have been devastated as a result of oil production by multinational companies. We will continue to condemn business which supports environmental and human rights in one country yet abuses them in another.

Nevertheless, we agreed to meet Jet in the same spirit we would agree to meet any business that wanted to talk to us. In this instance, we were curious to know why a petrol retailer would be interested in working with a company with strong environmental, franchising and brand credentials.

In a short meeting, however, we made it quite clear to Jet that we were not interested in linking with its retail activities.
