Brief

British hockey is looking for sponsorship in its next major tournament – the Sydney Olympics in 2000 – following the success of England’s men’s and women’s teams at last month’s Commonwealth Games. Hockey has become one of the country’s most successful team sports. In the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, the England women’s team won the silver medal, while the men’s team took third place. In the Olympics, the teams compete as a Great Britain side. Both of the teams are looking for 200,000-worth of sponsorship between them. This figure includes shirt, perimeter board and match sponsorship. David Whittle, the GB team manager for the Olympic Hockey Board, says: ‘We offer a very flexible package.’
