Diageo has appointed Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest to handle the £10m global advertising account for Tanqueray gin. It is understood to have won the business after a four-way pitch against four undisclosed agencies.

VCCP will now develop a new global positioning for the brand to be supported by a through-the-line campaign. It is the first time the agency has won a place on the Diageo roster. It will not handle the account in the US, where Grey will handle the business.

The global drinks company had appointed Bartle Bogle Hegarty to handle a one-off project for the premium gin brand at the end of last year but is understood to have decided against using the work. It is not thought that the agency pitched for the account.
