Sustain calls for Government to ban staff from drinking bottled water

Sustain, the lobby body, is calling for all Government departments to ban staff from using of bottled water. It is due to publish a report looking into the issue in the next two months.

The report follows research by the campaigning group into local and national government departments’ use of bottled water. Independent watchdogs, such as the Food Standards Agency, were also consulted as part of the research.

Sustain says that all departments should use tap water and not bottled water, which it says is more expensive, contributes to landfill and causes carbon emissions because it has to be transported.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) is the only Government department that has already banned the use of bottled water.
