Associated appoints former Emap chief to Mail on Sunday role

Associated Newspapers has appointed Marcus Rich to the dual role of managing director of The Mail on Sunday and the new position of the Mail Newspapers deputy managing director. Rich was previously at Emap where he was managing director of the advertising and lifestyle magazines divisions.

He replaces Stephen Miron (pictured), who left as managing director of The Mail on Sunday and Mail Online, to become chief executive of Global Group’s radio arm.

Rich will join Associated Newspapers in February and report to Mail Newspapers managing director, Guy Zitter.

As a board member at Emap, Rich oversaw brands including Heat, Grazia, Closer, FHM and Q. He was a key figure in the management team that led the sale of Emap Consumer Media to German publishing company H Bauer.

Rich has more than 25 years experience in marketing, sales and general management.

His appointment to Associated Newspapers follows a major restructure by the publisher last year, which saw several movements and new appointments in its commercial division.

Zitter, then the Daily Mail managing director and Associated Newspapers commercial director, moved to the expanded role of managing director of Mail Newspapers.

The changes were part of the merger of the management teams of Associated Newspapers’ national and regional newspaper businesses under a new unit known as A&N Media. It is headed by Kevin Beatty, who is also Associated Newspapers’ managing director.
