SB’s Cleary offered top post at Nike

Nike is understood to have offered the post of UK marketing director to Dermot Cleary, SmithKline Beech-am’s category director for oral care, say SB sources.

Nike has been advertising for a UK head of marketing for more than ten months (MW, July 29 1994) after John Trainor left the UK to join Nike in Amsterdam as marketing director for Europe.

Nike would not confirm the offer.

Cleary’s position is a senior one in SB’s marketing department, which he has held since only February. He was promoted from marketing manager for SB’s Lucozade brand.

Cleary was not available for comment when Marketing Week went to press.
