Selfridges to sell cannabis extract drink

Top London department store Selfridges is planning to become the first shop in the UK to sell Hemp, the cannabis extract drink under investigation by the Home Office.

If the controversial “energy drink” is approved by analysts at the Home Office, who are running tests to ensure the drink does not contain a controlled drug, Selfridges plans to serve Hemp in one of its 12 in-store cafés.

Hemp has sparked outrage in the national press and fuelled the fire in the current alcopops debate, although it only contains extracts of hemp, the male cannabis plant which is grown and sold legally throughout Britain and lacks the narcotic properties of its sister variant.

The Home Office’s decision is expected within the next few days.

The launch of Hemp will be accompanied by promotional merchandise such as caps, jackets, T-shirts, banners and posters.
