Beginning of end for millennium?

So, more than 45 per cent of UK consumers are planning to buy their millennium groceries in December (Factfile, “Prepare to get fresh for Y2K, MW September 30)?

No great shock there then.

What is surprising is that nearly 40 per cent of consumers have already started to buy their groceries – during July, August and September.

Then again, with four per cent of those surveyed planning to rack up debt and rely on the millennium bug to wipe out their overdrafts, you have to question whether those surveyed aren’t already suffering from millennium burn-out.
